To ensure access to the most current features now available, we are upgrading Office 365 on all Windows computers currently running this application suite. In an effort to minimize any impact to business activities, these updates are being spread out over the next few months.
After the updates are downloaded to your computer, Office attempts to apply them to your system. The necessary updates cannot occur while any Microsoft Office applications are in use. If Office applications are in use when Office attempts its update a message appears in the notification area in Windows to inform you that updates are downloaded and available. We request that if you are receiving update prompts, please make time to apply them at your earliest opportunity.
The message disappears in a few seconds, but the Office icon stays visible in the notification area. If you click the message, Office will attempt to apply the updates. If any Office programs are currently being used, they must be closed. Those with pending updates available will also receive notification messages in newly opened Office documents.
You can click Update now to apply the updates. You will then be prompted to close all open Office programs. After the updates are applied, the notification messages disappear.
If you have a Windows PC with Microsoft Office 365 you may already be seeing these update prompts. If you are not then do not be concerned, you should receive the updates in the coming weeks.
