After lashing the Carolina coast with winds and rain for hours, Hurricane Florence finally made landfall on Friday at 7:35 a.m. ET near Wilmington, NC. We are monitoring the storm carefully due to the company’s significant presence in the projected path. More than 3000 of the company’s people work in the Carolinas including sales professionals, team members at 14 SSCs, warehouse operators and drivers at three satellite DCs and a couple of thousand individuals working at fiber, yarn, laminate, MDF, carpet and rug manufacturing facilities across the two states.
As with last year’s storms, the company will provide emergency support to those whose homes and lives are impacted by Florence’s winds and rain. If many people are affected, we will offer employees an opportunity to participate in relief efforts. We hope that Florence will not create the kind of destruction that Harvey, Irma and Maria did in 2017, but Florence has proven difficult to predict. We are preparing for multiple eventualities.
While the needs will be significant across both states as the storm passes, community support we provide in the Carolinas will be focused on the communities where our people live and work.
Please keep our Carolina colleagues in your thoughts during this difficult time. We will alert you with more information when it is available.
