Sometimes a simple question can spark big change.
When asked what they wanted to see more of at their plants through the employee survey this summer, the teams at Summerville and Lyerly indicated they wanted to do more for their community.
The teams first started collecting canned goods and monetary donations for their local Community Resource Center in August. The organization helps many in their community, including providing food for the elderly, children and others in need.
To drive engagement in Plant 3, Plant Manager Darrell Rogers challenged each shift to participate, and he volunteered to contribute up to $100 based on participation. Collectively, the various plants donated $1,123 in October, $1,600 in November and $1,835 in December.
“We’re all really proud of how our plant has come together to feed those that are struggling with this ongoing community project,” Human Resources Manager Trish Canada said. “We’ve gotten a lot of support and good feedback since we started this. We’ve even assisted people collecting groceries and pushing the buggy to their vehicle and help unload the food."
The teams hope to continue growing their monthly donations throughout 2019. Congratulations and thank you to the Chattooga County teams for their commitment to supporting the community!
